music monday: ninth edition

oh fiona, where have you been??  more flashbacks to an angstier time in my life…it’s funny because i always wondered why people are so attached to music/voices from their youth.  i still don’t have an answer to that, but i realize i’ve become one of those people.  I AM ONE OF THEM.  and i’m okay with that.  because the music of my youth is rad.

kenton & rose: engaged

“we have like, two pictures of us together.  and we’ve been dating for three years.”  my favorite way to start a conversation!  i’m not even joking.  because 3 minutes into the session we had already increased that number by 500%.

one thing i loved about these two is they are super well rounded!  they met in university and are both incredibly “book smart”, but then they would turn around and be like “do you mind if we climb that tree?” um, no. no i don’t.

the day before we were to meet, i got an e-mail from rose that said: ” So we had a bit of a contact lense solution disaster. Long story short is that Kenton has a really swollen eye and it is very red. This would not make for good photos. I am not sure how long it is going to take to heal.”  close to the end of the session, kenton made reference to the time rose “sprayed poison in his eye” and i had to know the rest of the story.  turns out kenton was trying a new contact solution.  when he first put the contact in, his eye stung and assuming it was something on the contact, they removed it and rose (who is a chemistry teacher) proceeded to spray more of the solution into his eye to clean it out at which point kenton starts screaming.  little did they know, this particular solution needs to be mixed and react BEFORE applying it to your contact.  thankfully by the next morning, it was looking way better and we were still able to do photos.  oh yeah, and he didn’t go blind.  the two photos below are from while they were telling the story.  rose looks sheepish and kenton…a little smug, i think!

dillon & joanne: engaged

i love their story.  joanne relayed it to me when we first met and it involves a “hidden” one on one friendship and a series of funny (maybe not so funny at the time) mis-communications.  jo left him hanging and poor dillon assumed he was getting rejected.  thankfully, they were able to get it sorted and the rest is history!

august is going to be a good month…i get to shoot this wedding as well as joanne’s sister’s.  they’re getting married a week apart!

music monday: eighth edition

i have to admit, i was kinda prejudiced against this band when i first heard about them because i really didn’t like their name.  i know, i’m ridiculous.  but after hearing their music on multiple occasions through different sources, they’ve won me over.

**warning** this post is about my faith.  so if you’re kind of like “hey, i like her photos, but don’t really want to hear about her personal life” you might want to skip this.

i am being made new.  something which i am, everyday, grateful for.  because the thing is…i’m messed up.  i’m jealous and petty and annoying and deceitful and impatient.  i fail my family.  i screw stuff up.  all the time.

i have days like today when something (which does not need to be outlined here) frustrates me and instead of moving on, i dwell and stew and think ill thoughts and develop that heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach.  and that now makes it MY problem, which it never was in the first place.  and so, i put this song on replay and i listen over and over until it starts to sink in.  i am being made new.  i just need to choose to walk in the grace that has been offered to me.  and in that grace, i can be patient and loving and self-controlled and gracious in return.  what a sweet deal.

the jacobs’/cliffords: family

hallie contacted me last year about giving her parents a family photo session certificate as a christmas gift and we finally found a date that worked for all of us!  i love shooting in a location which is special to the client.  it’s fun to go and scout beautiful fields and blossoming orchards, but there’s something personal about being able to take pictures of someone at home.  so imagine my delight when joe and hallie’s home was surrounded by beautiful fields and blooming trees!  best of both worlds.

derek was trying really hard to whistle with the grass, but even after a tutorial from dad, it still just kinda sounded like a fart (don’t tell him i said that).

b-lo: expecting

this is my first trifecta.  i took their engagement photos.  and then their wedding.  and now…their pregnancy. i think brett will be happy if he never has to see me again, at least with a camera in my hands 🙂  that’s a lot of pictures in one year!  but he’ll have to put up with me one more time when the little peanut arrives.  and then i promise to leave them in peace. at least until the next one arrives.

music monday: seventh edition

you know that feeling when you “discover” a band that not many people know and you make it your mission to tell all your friends about how amazing they are and you go see them live at a small, intimate venue and you really want them to do well…and then they do something that makes them popular and suddenly you kind of wish that they had stayed small and beautiful and that you were the only one that knew about them so you could be secretly serenaded by them without it being “cool” to like them?  or is that just me?

that’s this band for me.  got to see them twice last year (proof i was there) and though i truly am very happy that their music is being heard by more than just me, i still kind of wish we could rewind back to before the grammy’s…and the hunger games soundtrack…and when i googled them, information about actual civil wars was number one…and it could just be me listening to them in my cold, dark basement office sweetly satisfied that i had “discovered” them.
