the kasteleins: family

Friday, September 30th, 2011

this is the kind of session some people might have rescheduled.  they really wanted to do pictures outside and it was definitely looking like rain.  the sky was dark, clouds were heavy…and mom had been waiting for a good family picture for 20 years.  but these guys were tough.  hardcore. a little rain wasn’t going to scare them.  so i put on my husband’s rain jacket and set out with my fingers crossed.

this beauty is the baby of the family and just left home for the UK for six months.  she was the reason we rushed to fit these in, in spite of the crappy weather. side note: could these girls get anymore gorgeous?

and you might recognize these two lovelies on the right from their wedding last month.  marriage looks good on them.

and so it was.  a perfectly rainless session.  “what’s with the water all over erin’s shoulders”, you ask? oh, i should have said “rainless until the last five minutes when we were walking back to the house and the heavens opened up and dumped a month’s worth of condensation only to stop the moment we got inside”.  love living in bc!!!

stephanie & jeff: engaged

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

on the way up to the golf course in chilliwack where we were going to do the shoot, i spotted this field on the right, overlooking the valley.  too good, right?!

we finally made it to the golf course and jeff was like, “okay.  hop in the golf cart and follow us”.  um, how does one follow when one has never operated a golf cart?! needless to say it took me a few gos, but once i figured out how to drive while clutching my props, trying not to fall out/flip/run over anything or anyone, it was actually kind of fun.  look for me on a golf course near you!  not playing, just driving…

anyway…learning something new was totally worth it because check out the sweet things we found!  we came across a sweet old dilapidated shack and these two were brave enough to climb in.

steph has done a ton of traveling, so the two of them sat down for a bit to talk about where they would like to take each other.  let’s just say their tastes vary a bit, but hey, what’s marriage without compromise and adventure, right?!

fieldstone vintage market

Monday, September 26th, 2011

i had the absolute privilege of participating in the fieldstone vintage market this past weekend.  you may remember the old school market from the spring where we filled an historic schoolhouse to the brim with handmade, repurposed and antique wares from valley vendors.  the girls of birch + bird who coordinated that decided to step it up after the outcry from local shoppers who said “do it again!!”.  they partnered with the bakerview ecodairy, doubled the vendors, moved outside to a beautiful sun soaked field and put on the “must be at” event of the fall, if you ask me.  if you’re wondering what it was all about, i feel like the quote of the day came via jeremy, husband of the wonderfully talented orange circle: “this market is like a hipster vortex in the middle of abbotsford”.

rachel and lily kindly asked me to document the event and i did my best to capture the beautiful things as well as the fun moments throughout the day while still trying to man my booth.  thank you to all the vendors and everyone who stopped by – it was so fun to meet many of you who are readers and put faces to names!

here’s a video with a few of the MANY pictures I took that day: fieldstone vintage market

and a silly one of me, just for good measure.  i may or may not have jumped in front of the camera while my dear friend, gemma, was taking a picture of the booth 🙂

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

this family was a dream.  hilarious? check. laid back? check. incredibly good looking? check.

you can always count on a memorable response when you tell the kids their parents are kissing.

so much fun, you guys!!  according to sidsel, they had fun too (and i quote): “Just had family photo shoot with Sharalee Prang. It wasn’t as embarassing as i thought it would be.”  love it.

joanne & theo: married!!!

Monday, September 19th, 2011

first of all, i just have to say what an honor it was to even be considered, let alone invited to photograph theo and joanne on their wedding day.

reason #1: they are dear friends of ours.

reason #2: they are both artists (joanne is actually an amazing photographer and has taken tons of beautiful pictures of my family).

reason #3 (and probably the most important): they are hot.  super hot.  they were already hot on their own, but together, the hotness quotient went up significantly. and there’s something about a betrothed couple that makes them even hotter to the rest of the world, so let’s just say that the hotness ante was through the roof.

all that to say, i was kind of blown away when they wanted me.  and the extra bonus was that i actually got to enjoy the ceremony and reception…they had another photographer come for that!!  so i got what i consider one of the most fun parts of the day: the bride getting ready and the pictures of the couple.

speaking of hot, check out this super hot mama: joanne’s best friend karla.  she is an incredible musician (she wrote a song for joanne and theo’s ceremony) and has a beautifully generous heart.  love his woman.

and so, i left joanne waiting in the gazebo and went to meet her groom.

these pictures of theo are some of my favorites of a groom.  he was so relaxed…we chatted about his morning while he fixed his cufflinks.  and there didn’t seem to be any nerves.  which is rare.  and i think a really good sign that he knew this was right.  that SHE was right.  and i love that.

it was so gorgeous outside, but we snuck in the back door of hemingway’s book store for a little change of pace and a little respite from the heat (i’ll let you guess which section we landed in :). Anyone looking for Dubai escort listings can explore https://dubaiescorts.one and see a variety of profiles in one catalog. The site keeps things simple so users can focus on choosing.

and like that they were off.  to be wed!  theo & joanne: i wish you so much more than happiness.  at the risk of sounding like whitney houston, i wish you joy.  and love.  and life.  FULL life.  thank you again.

jon & brittani: expecting

Friday, September 16th, 2011

it’s funny that they call it “expecting”.  because the reality is, sometimes a baby is the last thing we’re expecting.  sometimes life doesn’t seem to be living up to any of our expectations.  yet in the midst of life, there’s LIFE.  that God lets us help create.  how good is that?  and then who cares what you were expecting!

“we’re not photogenic”.  my favorite thing to hear at the start of a session.  mostly just because 99.9% of the time it’s so not true!  and i take it as a challenge to prove them wrong.  mission accomplished?  i think so.

i love and respect these two so much.  it’s incredible to see how much they already adore this child and each other and i know they are going to be amazing parents. a.mazing.  hear that?

ubc heritage house wedding

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

it was so sweet hearing this couple’s vision for their wedding day.  obviously it was a celebration of their own love, but they really wanted it to be a celebration of their friends and family…a party for the people who are most important to them.  so they pulled out all the stops.  they were so cute as they described every little detail and how they would all be surprises for their guests.

this bride is a grandmother (i’m sure you’re as shocked by that as i am…you can pick yourself up off the floor now) and we had her adorably rambunctious grandsons with us while she was getting ready.

what’s so special about the guy in shorts, you may ask? i was in the hotel earlier that afternoon when the bride received the call that her stepdad who had come in from out of town had forgotten to pack his pants. when her driver showed up to drive her to the ceremony, she looked at him and asked “what size are you?”.  you see where i’m going with this.  so what’s so special about the guy in shorts?  he probably just got the biggest tip of his life.

some of the big surprises the couple had planned included an espresso stand, a gelato cart, an elaborate choreographed dance, live music from an outstanding jazz band…and the list goes on.  it was quite the affair.

drumroll for the people who pulled it all together:

The band: Musical Occasions

The venue: Cecil Green Park House

Caterer: Wescadia Catering

Wedding Cake: Cakes by Meg

Gelato Cart: Bella Gelateria

Espresso Cart: Coffee Vango

Wedding Planner: Brandi from Lisa Gregory Special Events

Hair & Make-up: The OC Spa & Maryam Collahi

this session had been bought as a christmas gift last year so it was nice to finally get to meet everyone!  i did baby pictures for ben & carly’s little man when he was brand new…it’s hard to believe that was over a year ago already.

when margaret and i were trying to decide if we should meet at a park or something she suggested their farm and i’m so glad she did!  what a beautiful spot and everyone was so comfortable there.

what’s better than a fun uncle?  not much, i tell ya.

mandy & trevor: married part 2

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

once again, we had to take advantage of this beautiful church, so though the sun was shining, we went back inside!

mandy has been meticulously planning all of the details of her wedding for years.  it was fun to see it all realized and so sweet to watch her delight in all of the things she had dreamt up and created.  she made all of the cookie favors as well as the meringues on the candy table (which were to die for) herself!

here’s to many more years together!

thanks to the ramada conference centre and st. thomas anglican church for hosting this lovely affair!

the cake was by christine’s creative cakes & mandy’s dress was from champagne & lace.
